Sony has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone at a press conference a day before IFA 2017 officially kicks off in Berlin. The Xperia XZ1 smartphone will contain many of the features seen in the Xperia XZ Premium, but will also introduce some new tricks of its own.
The Xperia XZ1 measures a comfortable 5.2", and features a 23MP camera for super-slow motion video capture as well as the previously seen Predictive Capture function. It also will ship with Android 8.0, and feature a Snapdragon 835 processor.
What makes the XZ1 really stand out is Sony's new 3D Creator feature. With this you can scan a variety of things and quickly turn them into a 3D model. The different modes are Face, Head, Food, and Freeform. The process takes about a minute, and the end results are often quite hilarious. Once you've got your 3D scan completed, you can choose to set it as your phone's live wallpaper, share it with contacts, or use it to create an avatar for third party apps. It's quite gimmicky, but it's still hilarious to try out. Scanning was scarily accurate, and the finished model did look very good. Sony says that it can even be sent to a 3D printer for printing, should you wish to do so.
Xperia XZ1 will be available for pre-order from September 7, 2017 and will be priced AED 2,199 with a complimentary Sony XB20 Bluetooth Speaker. Stay tuned for our full review coming up in the new few weeks.
