The Information Technology Authority (ITA) of Oman has held a workshop to introduce e-participation to a number of government officials responsible for communications and media departments.

The workshop, which was held at Omantel headquarters, was intended to introduce the e-participation concept and the importance of its implementation, as well as emphasizing the positive impact of implementing it in enhancing the performance of government agencies and building trust with the community.

The event also aimed to highlight the available opportunities offered by social media channels for implementing e-participation, which is defined as the use of ICT for citizens to participate in government and governance.

Twenty-three government organisations participated in the session.

The workshop included sessions on e-participation and its importance, the Sultanate's ranking in the United Nation's e-readiness index and the success of the ITA in implementing e-participation through the Shoorkum discussion sessions.

A proposed framework for implementing e-participation was also presented, using a number of government projects, and participants were asked to develop suggested plans for them.
