His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President & Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai has reviewed construction progress on Dubai Creek Tower, set to be the world’s next tallest structure.

The visit came as the the iconic tower in Dubai Creek Harbour reached another construction milestone, with the core of the concrete pile cap now at its highest point.

The pile cap, which began work in September last year, is a multi-layered, tiered reinforced concrete top that covers and transfers the load to the foundation barrettes. Over 50% of the structure is finished with completion scheduled for mid-2018, developer Emaar said in statement.

To date, about 25,000 cubic metres of concrete has been poured and around 12,000 tonnes of steel reinforcement has also been placed, nearly twice the weight of the Eiffel Tower. In all, about 50,000 cubic metres of concrete will be used to fully cap the foundation piles.

Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava Valls, the tower has 145 barrettes (piles used in foundation), tested to a world record load of 36,000 tonnes and laid 72 metres deep to firmly secure the super-structure.

Over 450 skilled professionals are currently working on-site highlighting the global collaboration that marks the construction of the new iconic structure.
