RMD Kwikform wins falsework package for Dubai’s Museum of the Future

RMD Kwikform Middle East has been awarded the falsework package for Dubai’s Museum of the Future.

The contract was secured following a demonstration of the formwork company’s Locus Eye software, according to UAE managing director, Chris Jardine.

Unveiled in 2015 by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Museum of the Future is located in the vicinity of Emirates Towers near to Sheikh Zayed Road.

The development is designed to reflect a new approach to innovation, and aims to use design technology, prototyping, and foresight to create real examples of change.

Commenting during a Construction Week roundtable discussion on the Middle East’s formwork sector, RMD Kwikform’s Jardine said that Locus Eye played a vital role in securing the high-profile contract.

“[Locus Eye] is software that allows completed 3D designs to be rendered immediately,” he explained. “These renderings can be viewed in a virtual environment, or transferred to [existing models]. We were awarded the falsework package for Dubai’s Museum of the future following a demonstration of this software.”

Speaking during the same roundtable discussion, Paul Wallett, regional director for the Middle East and India at Trimble Buildings, revealed that his company’s Tekla Structures platform was used to model Museum of the Future’s concrete reinforcement and main structure.

Architect Shaun Killa, design partner at Killa Design, was enlisted to design the torus-shaped building in 2015. ACES Dubai was awarded the geotechnical investigation package for the project later that year.

Museum of the Future’s $212.4m (AED780m) main contract was awarded the BAM International.

The Netherlands-headquartered contractor intends to deliver the development by mid-2019.
