UAE to conduct drainage, rainwater management study
The UAE Ministry of Infrastructure Development has conducted a study to help manage and prepare for issues arising from the country’s rainy season.
The aim of the study is to assess the causes of water deviation and flooding while improving the design and implementation of a rainwater management and drainage system, according to the Emirates News Agency, WAM.
The study will look at improving specific roads in Dubai including exits 129, 119, 103, and 110 on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road.
The ministry will also help facilitate the installation of 16 drainage pipes to the underground storage basins beneath these four exits, and will construct two new underground storage basins.
The project will also include the restoration of a 166-square kilometre area, to stabilise excess sand accumulating on streets due to heavy rainfall in the winter months.
Ahmed Al Hammadi, director of Roads Administration, highlighted the ministry’s desire to adopt the best international practices in infrastructure development, to meet the requirements of the UAE’s local environment, as per the directives of
Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development.
