Dubai sets world record for largest concrete pour

Dubai has set a new record for the 'largest continuous concrete pour in the world' at a residential commercial building in the Jebel Ali area of the emirate, said a report. Observers from Guinness World Records attended the 35-hour and 19-minute concrete pouring process in Jebel Ali, which started at 7.21 pm on May 18 and ended at 8.46 am on May 20 on a 20,612-sq-ft area of land, reported state news agency Wam. With this feat, Dubai has retained its own record which it broke last year in Al Barsha South, it stated. The average rate of concrete pouring in an hour was recorded at 611 cu m, breaking the previous record related to the time taken. During the process, 18 concrete pumps were used, and the readymix concrete trucks made 2,618 trips for the purpose. The concreting work was carried out with the presence of 500 workers per shift, and 2,700 tonnes of reinforcing steel bars were used for the work, said the Wam report. Hussain Nasser Lootah, the director-general of Dubai Municipality, received the Guinness Certificate for the achievement in the presence of Dawoud Al Hajiri, the assistant director-general for engineering and planning sector, Layali Al Mulla, the director of buildings department, and Abdullah Al Shezawi, the head of engineering supervision section. Last year's record-breaking pour was of 19,793 cu m in Al Barsha South, taking 42 hours, he added.
