CCTV plan for UK Parliament halted for being ‘unsightly’

CCTV is to be installed for the first time in the Palace of Westminster’s internal corridors and Westminster Hall in London – but the move to address security fears is being held up because of “heritage” concerns.

The Telegraph said that the Commons and Lords Speakers have signed off on the installation of security cameras in all areas of Parliament that can be accessed by visitors, including the 900-year-old hall where Charles I was tried.

However the move has been delayed for months because of ongoing discussions about ensuring the devices will not be unsightly.

A secret “resilience test” showed that terrorists could break into Parliament in under five minutes and stage a massacre of more than 100 Members.
