Work on Adam-Thamrait road upgrade on track
Oman's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) has said that the Adam-Thamrait road dualisation project is progressing well. The project is divided into six phases and work is on track on two phases covering a total of 240 km, an Oman Daily Observer report said. The ministry said work on the remaining four phases has not started due to the current financial situation as it will require at least RO500 million ($1.299 billion). The current single carriageway road between the two towns (covering 715 km) is in good condition, the ministry said. Contracts for two segments were awarded in November 2014. The first part of the project, a 120-km-long section to convert the existing single carriageway into a four-lane dual carriageway, was won by the UAE-based Ghantoot Transport and General Contracting, while the second part for the same distance was awarded to Consolidated Contractors Company. Once the whole Adam-Thumrait project is complete, the link between Muscat and Salalah will be fully dualised along its length of more than 1,000 km.
