Abu Dhabi University to inaugurate $4.8m dorm extension

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) is set to inaugurate a new extension to its female dormitory at the start of the 2017-2018 academic year.

The $4.8m (AED17.5m) project, which spans 4,200m2, adds 93 rooms to the existing structure, increasing its current capacity by 144 female students, according to UAE state news agency, WAM.

The extension was reportedly implemented in response to a rise in demand for on-campus student housing. ADU currently houses 408 students in segregated male and female dorms.

The extension comes with a multi-purpose hall, a gym, discussion and reading rooms, service rooms, and outdoor courtyards, among other facilities.

Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, chairman of ADU’s executive board, commented: “ADU works relentlessly to provide our students with a conducive environment that fosters creativity and innovation and encourages them to excel on an academic and personal level.

“We strive to ensure that our graduates stand out amongst their peers and are fully qualified to provide the diverse human capital needs of the Abu Dhabi government’s policy agenda and its Economic Vision 2030."
