Ferrari World to get two more rollercoasters

Abu Dhabi amusement park Ferrari World will get two new rides by the end of this year. Both rides will be indoor rollercoasters, bringing the total number of rollercoasters at the theme park to five, Arabian Buisness reported The first ride will be launched in the summer, and the second by the end of the year, Miral Asset Management’s CEO Mohammed Al Zaabi told Arabian Business.

An additional four rides will be added to Ferrari World’s portfolio in 2018, all targeted towards children, Al Zaabi said, bringing the total of rides to 39 by the end of that year In total Ferrari World will have 43 rides by the end of phase four of its development scheduled to complete by 2020. The first three phases cost AED700 million ($190 million), Al Zaabi said. Miral was set up in 2011 to manage and develop a collection of government assets in Abu Dhabi – including including Yas Island, which has been 40 percent redeveloped into a key leisure, shopping and etnertainment destination for Abu Dhabi. It already houses the Formula 1 Grand Prix Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Mall, Yas Waterworld and Ferrari World. New attractions including the Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi theme park and the Middle East’s first SeaWorld marine life park are set to open in 2018 and 2022, respectively. And Yas Waterworld will have a new 29-seat 5D cinema this year – the first of its kind for a waterpark in the region, Al Zaabi said. The CEO added that Yas Island is targeting 48 million visits by 2021; it recorded 25 million visits in 2015, the last year for which figures are currently available, he said. Further potential development plans for the island include an aerial cable car network to take visitors around the different attractions. Al Zaabi told Arabian Business that talks were ongoing with California-based skyTran, which has developed an elevated, Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system that can ferry people to different places at high-speed and with minimal environmental impact. The two parties signed a momorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2016 to explore plans for a PRT on Yas Island. The chief executive also revealed plans for Yas Waterworld, saying: “We are adding a new attraction to Yas Waterworldthis year, with the addition of a 29-seat, 5D cinema, which will be the first of its kind for a waterpark in the region.”
