Muharraq Ring Road project in Bahrain now 35% complete

Progress on the Muharraq Ring Road project, worth $5m (BHD1.9m) in Bahrain has passed the 35% completion mark.

The update was announced during a visit of Bahrain’s Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf, to the project site, which is located between the Hidd Interchange and the entrance to Amwaj and Galali.

According to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the ministry aims for the project to provide safe and convenient access to the villages in its vicinity. These villages include Hidd, Dair, Samaheej, and Galali.

The development is also intended to provide access to the entrance and exit points of investment housing projects like Amwaj, Dilmunia and Diyyar Al Muharraq, BNA added.

Work on the project reportedly commenced in February of this year and will continue until October, with Down Town as the main contractor.

Quoting Khalaf, BNA said that works on the project include the addition of extra lanes to the road extending from the Amwaj entrance to the Hidd entrance, the refurbishment of the Hidd Interchange, and the construction of a new access point to the east of the interchange leading to the investment and commercial complexes in the area.

The 3km expansion project will also see a new lighting system implemented in the location, and the storm-water drainage network improved.

Upcoming works will include the building of concrete barriers, after which the paving of the additional lanes will commence. A new entrance to Hidd Industrial Area will then be constructed to revamp the Hidd Avenue Interchange, said Khalaf.

The ministry has recently announced that construction work on another of its road infrastructure projects, in Zayed Town, has commenced.
